Photos of Plein Air Painting at Riwaka Wharf
The Riwaka Wharf was one of the most beautiful plein air painting areas that I have ever been to. We had the choice between boats, batches, boat houses, islands and the Richmond hills in the background. This time I painted with oils and stayed small (6×8″), which allowed me to finish the painting in about one hour. Also, I made sure that the sun didn’t hit my canvas or palette while I was painting. It helped a lot with getting the painting brighter and choosing the right values. If the sun hits my canvas I see my colours much brighter than they actually are and am disappointed when I look at my painting inside a room. This time however I’m really happy with the outcome.
