Nelson Port and Boulder Bank

This painting shows the view from Atawhai, Nelson, over the Nelson Port towards the Boulder Bank. The buildings at the Nelson Port are shown in an old fashion manner with the typical reddish New Zealand roofs. Today the port looks more industrial than it is depicted in this painting. The Boulder Bank shows the lighthouse and suggests a couple of Boulder Bank batches as they still exist today. Along the Boulder Bank you can see sailboats on anchor. In this area you can only anchor close to the Boulder Bank. The other areas are either too shallow or shipping channels.
