7am at Java Hut (96cm x 66cm)

“7am at Java Hut” is the larger one of two oil paintings done of Java Hut, the funky coffee place in Mapua. For a group of men it has become tradition to meet in the morning at 7am when the shop opens to grab a coffee and then go for a walk to the waterfront. Two of these men are related to the artist and therefore it was a particular joy to paint this work. There is Uncle Frank, sitting next to Mike, and Matt standing in the group of three (on the right). The artist’s daughter is in the red jacket and then there is Lee (former NELMAC) talking to a lady on the right. The artist’s border terrier Jack is sniffing something on the ground, while Jane (Java Hut’s dog) is sniffing him out. It is unknown who the person inside the shop is.
