Autumn Exhibition – Nelson Suter Art Society

The Autumn Exhibition at the Nelson Suter Art Society is in full swing. The exhibition is gorgeous and guess what, my painting "7am at Java Hut" has been hung in the entrance! It's the first painting you see when you enter the Potton Gallery room. My second painting "Richmond Ranges from Motueka" is currently displayed in the McKee Gallery room. How cool is that?!  Such an honour! I'm excited, happy and overwhelmed at the same time. Autumn Exhibition Nelson Suter…

Autumn Reflections

Autumn is my favourite time for plein air painting (painting outdoors). I met with a small group of artists at a beautiful private property called “Silvan” in Richmond (NZ) and we set up our easels around the lake. Most of the time it was difficult to make a decision on what to paint since there is so much choice, but this time it was very easy. The reflections of the autumn leaves in the water were the first thing that…

Sailing along the Mapua Wharf

The wharf in Mapua, New Zealand,  is a lovely place to visit. Apart from the historic wharf itself you find galleries and restaurants. The typical fish & chips and ice cream are also available. And you can watch boats sail past, such as this little one. The boat is called “Molly” and is a goat island skiff (in case you are curious). The sailor is my husband, which makes the painting extra special to me 😉 Sailing along the Mapua…

Ready to go for a Tiki-Tour

"Ready to go for a Tiki-Tour" shows a small dinghy with the Apple Shed Restaurant in the background. It is located at the Mapua Inlet, which is famous for its strong currents at high or low tide. Because to the tide the dinghy sometimes sits on the mud but in this painting it is floating and ready to go for a tiki-tour. 7am at Java Hut (96cm x 66cm)

“7am at Java Hut” is the larger one of two oil paintings done of Java Hut, the funky coffee place in Mapua. For a group of men it has become tradition to meet in the morning at 7am when the shop opens to grab a coffee and then go for a walk to the waterfront. Two of these men are related to the artist and therefore it was a particular joy to paint this work. There is Uncle Frank, sitting…
