WATERCOLOURS FOR BEGINNERS (6 Sept – 27 Sept 2018)

During this class Nicole Russell will teach you fun watercolour techniques. She will demonstrate each step and guide you along to your finished painting. Each session will be about a different subject: Colour awareness and complementary colours, composition, perspective, water and trees. You will be painting from still lifes and photographs. Bring your own subjects if you wish.

Thursday 10am-12pm (4 weeks), 6 Sept – 27 Sept 2018

Fee:$80 for 4×2 hours (materials not included)

GLAZING AND POURING WITH WATERCOLOURS (18 Oct – 25 Oct 2018)

Are you exited about trying out two different techniques with watercolours and create a surprise picture? You will be working with transparent watercolours only and for pouring you will need a lot of masking fluid. Some experience with watercolours is recommended.

Thursday 10am-12pm (2 weeks), 18 Oct – 25 Oct 2018

Fee:$40 for 2×2 hours (materials not included)

WATERCOLOUR JOURNALING (1 Nov – 22 Nov 2018)

Imagine you are a tourist in the Nelson/Richmond area, equipped with a little watercolour sketchbook, a few watercolours, pencil and black pen and you have 20 minutes to capture a scene before the bus leaves again…

In Nicole’s Watercolor Journaling class you will be creating small keepsakes of your journey that are worth much more than a photograph. During this class you will practice figures, negative spaces, water and trees, and of course perspective, in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Nicole will be demonstrating each step, guide you through a few practice runs and you will finish with your final painting. This class is for beginners as well as experienced artists. Each week will be at a different location in Nelson/Richmond.

Tuesday 10am-12pm (4 weeks), 1 November – 22 November 2018,

Fee: $80 for 4 x 2 hour classes (materials not included)

Materials needed: Watercolour sketchbook, brush, watercolour pocket set, water container and a full water bottle, pencil, eraser, and a black waterproof pen. The following items are optional: folding chair, a hat, sunscreen, bug spray, camera. PAINT MAPUA (ADVANCED WATERCOLOUR JOURNALING) (29 Nov – 6 Dec 2018)

The focus of this class will be on composition and you will be painting at the charming Mapua Wharf using pen and wash. This is a great location for landscapes or seascapes, buildings or figures, linear and atmospheric perspective. You can paint in your little travel journal or use a bigger format if you wish. Nicole will be demonstrating a possible approach and guide you through the composition of your choice. Only a small selection of watercolours and brushes is needed, since you will be painting outdoors. Some experience with watercolours is recommended.
